Kayaker Drew Trousdell was out for cruise when a shark chomped down on his paddle off the coast of Florida near Matanzas Inlet. Rather than become a shark snack, Trousdell sprinted and surfed his way to safety.

The Florida coast experienced several shark attacks in recent days as sharks have gathered close by to feed on high concentrations of schooling fish. Apparently Matanzas is one such area. Be careful out there, but also remember that a) you only need to be faster than your friends and b) shark attacks are actually relatively rare. There were only 23 documented shark attacks in the US in 2015.
