Packrafts tend to be designed for a pretty specific purpose: carrying a boat deep into the backcountry to float a river, usually a small one. But with new packraft models surpassing heavier inflatable kayaks in whitewater capability, packrafters have been tackling rivers that used to be reserved for rafts or kayaks. Latest case-in-point, a recent all-packraft descent of the Grand Canyon with filmmaker Luc Mehl and friends. Big waves, big holes, small boats, and (a few) big swims. Enjoy.
