Packable kayaks are all the rage these days. They’re easy to transport and can go anywhere, but most models are foldable or inflatable, which makes them less rigid than a plastic touring kayak. Pakayak designed a packable plastic kayak that utilizes watertight patented clamps to connect the pieces of the hull. The kayak packs down to just 3.5 feet, which is small enough to fit just about anywhere—planes, trains, inside of your car or on your back.

Their Kickstarter campaign is really more of a pre-sale than a simple fundraiser. Think this idea looks interesting? Then go ahead and preorder your Pakayak at ~550 less than the predicted retail price!

From the Kickstarter page:

We think that kayaking is one of the best things you can do in your free time. Six inches off the shore and you are on an instant vacation. Unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to get your kayak, in most of the places that we live, to and from the water without a pickup truck, or a roof rack and a buddy to help you carry and lift your kayak. For those who live in the cities, it can be next to impossible.

So, we’ve developed the Pakayak. The Pakayak Bluefin 14 is a hard-shell 14-foot kayak that nests inside itself to 3 1/2 feet and packs into a bag.
