First descents are few and far between these days, but it’s always possible to go exploring for a personal first descent. Neither Eric Boomer nor Todd Wells had ever run the “Box” of the Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone. After receiving a few brief instructions from a friend via text message, the pair dropped into one of the most committing Class V+ canyons in the lower 48 states. With granite walls that soar to over 1200 feet tall, the Box has multiple mandatory portages around unrunnable drops--the perfect recipe for an exploratory adventure. This quick video gives us a little insight into the beauty of a trip down the Clarks Fork Box.
