Nick Troutman’s Road to the Mountains series tracks his family travels with wife Emily Jackson across the country as they prepare for the 2016 GoPro Mountain Games, June 9-12 in Vail, Colo. Episode 5 follows Troutman to Nevada’s Reno River Festival, doubling as the 2016 U.S. National Whitewater Freestyle Championships. Troutman ended up winning the boatercross and slalom events as well as taking second place in the men’s K-1 freestyle contest, while Emily took home a national title by winning the women’s K-1 freestyle event.
