Idaho’s North Fork Championship–what many consider to be the most difficult event in whitewater kayaking–kicked off yesterday with a downriver race through the lowest two rapids on the North Fork of the Payette, but final throwdown is yet to come. On Saturday, the elite racer division will navigate a giant slalom course through Jacob’s Ladder, a race already so storied in its third year it prompted senior C&K editor Joe Carberry to claim, “We are in the middle of creek-racing renaissance… No, really this time.”
