Danny Allen, a veteran raft guide on the Nolichucky River, is used to rescuing tourists. Saving a bear cub, though, was a first.

Allen rescued a baby bear cub Thursday, reports Knoxville’s Local8Now.com

“We picked her up and brought her down here in this same boat that we’re in right now. Very skinny for her size, for the age she is, she should have been twice her size,” Allen said.

After Allen brought the bear downriver in his raft, veterinarians at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine gave the cub fluids, and fed her grapes soaked in Pedialyte. When she was strong enough, she was taken to Appalachian Bear Rescue in Townsend.

Allen told Local8Now that the cub is now called Noli, after the Nolichucky River.
