Jessica Lutz‘s film chronicles Colin McDonald’s seven-month source-to-sea journey down the length of the Rio Grande. Starting at 12,500 feet on Stony Pass in the Colorado Rockies, McDonald traversed 1,900 miles to Boca Chica Beach in the Gulf of Mexico, examining “how changes to the river impact the people and places that depend on it.” Watch Lutz weave her imagery from the experience into a larger story of the health of a river that is dammed, divided, dried up and—perhaps—on its way back, and then read ‘A River Divided,’ McDonald’s feature on the journey appearing in our current August issue on newsstands now.
