We dug deep into the photo archives to produce our special March issue commemorating Canoe & Kayak‘s 40 Year Anniversary (on newsstands now). Not everything fit into the magazine, so we’d like to present photo editor Aaron Schmidt’s favorite picks that didn’t make it to the pages. It’s part of our ongoing series of retrospective nods back to great moments in the past 40 years of paddling. Check out Waterfalls: Forbidden Fruit or Calculated Risk from Feb. ’79; the 1984 account of Verlen Kruger’s legendary canoe-tripping exploits; and Wick Walker and Eric Evans epic in Bhutan recounted in June 1982. You can also delve into the magazine’s past with our retro cover rundown and our bracketed vintage ad sweepstakes.
