Offshore Bully: Sailfish by Suprise

A winter trip off Pompano Pier gave Kwanza Henderson quite the surprise.

Sailfish by Suprise was caught in peak season for the Florida angler.

Kwanza Henderson keeps tabs on his local fishing zones. From chasing exotic peacock bass in the neighborhood to offshore trips for sailfish. This video highlights the sailfish caught out of Pompano Pier, Florida.

From Kwanza’s accounts, “I was using a Shimano jigging rod and a Shimano 8000 real series. My main line was PowerPro braided 40 lb line. And at the end of that line was a Shimano Flat Fall 2 1/2 ounce, chartreuse color.”

“My Old Town Predator PDL has been my favorite kayak to get out and fish on. I took this kayak out the day the sailfish was caught. Smooth pedaling and nice and stable while fighting this big fish.”

“The best time to catch sailfish is during the winter time. Although South Florida doesn’t really have winter time weather but the sailfish bite gets red-hot around that time. That’s when I caught the selfish in December 2017.”
