McBride’s Tackle Tips — Hook Replacement

Avoid snags and painful hookups with Jerry McBride’s tips on hook replacement. Jerry takes you step by step through the process of changing out the trebles on your big crankbaits and topwater and replacing them with single hooks.

Take note that sometimes you need to keep existing trebles in place in order to maintain the action of the lure, particularly the tail hook on topwater lures meant to produce the “walk the dog” action.

Jerry also points out that both the style and size of the replacement hook play a large part in lure action. All of this is thoroughly displayed in the accompanying video.
