112 kayak-based bass anglers will converge on Lake Santee Cooper the weekend of March 14-15 for the second annual Kayak Bass Fishing Open. That puts the attendance-based cash payout purse at $12,000 according to tournament director Chad Hoover.

The KBF Open will be based at Black’s Camp, Santee Cooper, Alabama. Anglers can fish within 50 miles of tournament headquarters, but must remain in the Santee Cooper Lake system. The wide boundaries should stop any complaints of crowding cold, but the rules still discourage anchoring or staking out.

“First place will be $5,000 plus a kayak and paddle and trophy BlackPak. There is another $2,500 in Manufacturers Money up for grabs too,” Hoover said today. Hoover is taking registrations right up to the morning of the CPR event.

Pre-registrations are running short of Hoover’s 200-kayak hopes, yet the prize pool is still among the highest ever at a kayak fishing competition. “What I am most proud of is we can have payouts and prizes deep into the field that rival first place at some of the biggest events in the country,” Hoover said.
