Rex Del Rey (Rex DeGuzman) is a regular contributor to KayakFishMag.com and the host of a popular YouTube channel featuring kayak fishing and, more and more often these days, the inventions and innovations Rex has come up with to make it easier to capture all the various points of view (POV) necessary these days to put together a first class kayak fishing video.
Lately “Tex” Del Rey has been focusing on what might be the best invention yet ever related to the small action cameras like the GoPro, Garmin, Shimano and Wolf that rely on mounts to both provide a POV platform and stablize the camera for better image quality.
The invention is called the Action Hat and as you can see in the video above, Tex literally believes it “buries” the competition, obsoleting the head strap variety of mount for at least all above the water situations.
The video also highlights perhaps the best feature of the Action Hat…it is really easy to put on and take off, something that can be accomplished with a single hand. Try that with a head strap model.
Not only that, the Action Hat floats even with a camera attached. The Action Hat can also handle a dual mount, allowing the user to use two cameras set in different modes or to mount an illumination device such as a flashlight or video light for low light situations.
“Try putting on a camera head strap and a strap with head lamp at the same time,” says Del Rey. “Can’t be done.”
The Action Hat comes in several styles, including camo. Cameras and accessories can be mounted both forwards and backwards (so you don’t have to spin your cap around, although that option is included).
