The new Air Pro MAX seat from Wilderness Systems is a melding of comfort features and quality materials the company’s seats are known for, with added multi-height adjustability. It is an ideal, comfortable fit for Wildy’s Ride series of stand-up fish ‘yaks.
Kayak Fish had a chance to see this clever new fishing seat in action. The height adjustment is a function of pivots built into the seat base. The entire assembly rests on molded slides that fit right into the Ride deck like the prior sliding seat models, providing rare adjustability fore and aft. In use, it feels ‘locked’ into the boat, a good thing if you’re facing challenging water conditions.
The seat itself is comfortable, ergonomically shaped open weave 3D mesh fabric fitted to a tubular aluminum frame. Accessories can supposedly be mounted on the slide rails. Side pockets and tackle box storage appear to be other options. It’s a quality item, much more than a nylon web beach chair.
Seat adjustability includes backrest angle (via straps); the seat itself offers high, low and recline positions. Our prototype moved easily enough between positions. Production models should be smoother.
Without question, the Air Pro MAX is a vast improvement over the prior single-position, removable / sliding seat. It fits all Ride model years from 2012.
