Packrafters from Finland are experimenting with a new ultralight method of cruising on open waters by combining the WindPaddle Cruiser Sail with ultralight inflatables rafts. In this clip, two packrafters test their systems on an pleasant evening sail from Suvisaaristo in Espoo to Helsinki, visiting Suomenlinna on the way. Brisk south/southwest wind generated a generous swell especially around Nuottakari, and gave a good pace for the trip. The sailers even surfed a few downwinder swells on their way.
The WindPaddle sail isn’t just for packrafters—canoeists and sea kayakers can use the sail to harness the wind any time that a blessed tail wind blows at your back.
