Thermacell Camp Lantern
At first, I was leery of Thermacell's insect repellent technology. Perhaps that's a function of growing up in the northern Ontario mosquito belt, where technology (bug zapper, anyone?) is viewed as ineffectual against the legendary scourge of biting insects. But Thermacell's formula--a synthetic, practically odorless take on the natural insecticide emitted by chrysanthemum flowers that's heated by butane and radiated silently--actually works to eradicate bugs in small areas, as I discovered on a sea kayak trip along Florida's bug-ridden Gulf Coast. Now, Thermacell has combined a battery-powered lantern with its insect repellent, making nights around base camp more bearable.
