Gifts by Boaters: Give to a cause

Charitable donations to organizations that make a difference in the paddling community.

Does the paddler in your life have everything and need nothing? A donation to a charitable organization can be the perfect gift. Of course there are many great organizations out there doing great work on behalf of paddlers and the environment, but these are a few that have caught our eye:

American Whitewater

Supporting paddlers’ access to rivers across the country, AW’s stewardship efforts have been helping protect the places we love since 1954. Memberships start at $35 at

2) First Descents:

First Descents leverages the healing power of adventure to help young adults impacted by cancer. They offer participants experiences in paddling, surfing and rock climbing at no cost to their participants. Donations to First Descents help get more young adult cancer survivors and fighters outside for life-changing experiences. Donate here:

3) Team River Runner:

Team River Runner is a leader utilizing the healing power of kayaking for veterans. TRR is a leader in adaptive paddling instruction with a focus on fun, camaraderie, and recreation for US service members. They are a volunteer organization and you can donate here: $25 provides a day of food and gas for a one-day experience on the river.

There are many other worthy organizations that deserve our support, so think about who is making a difference in your community!
