The Second Annual Reno River Festival solidified its reputation as a premier boating event, bringing some of the world's top boaters together for some intense paddling on the Truckee River's multimillion dollar whitewater playpark.
Over 20,000 people watched from the shore and millions more tuned in to the Fox Sports telecast as 2005 World Freestyle champ, Eric Jackson, beat out the defending Reno River Festival's freestyle winner, Jay Kincaid in the Men’s Pro Invitational Freestyle competition. Saturday’s Open Freestyle winner, Stephen Wright, finished third showing that next year he and his Phonics Monkey should get an invitation to the pro competion.
In the Women's Pro Freestyle competion, Tanya Faux, 2004 Pre World Champion, dueled it out with another surprise from Saturday’s freestyles, 15-year-old Emily Jackson (EJ's daughter), and two-time World Squirt Boating champion Brooke Winger.
In other events, Nikki Kelly and Tao Berman took the Wave Sport Boater Cross finals in their respective divisions. In the Lotus Designs down river race in the 'over 9 feet' category Tim Milton took the mens and Jennie Goldberg took the women’s. In the 'under 9 feet' Christie Glissmeyer was the women's division winner and Eric Jackson added another trophy by taking the men's competition. In the tandem Down River Race, the team of Charles Albright and Scott Norwood crossed the finish line first.
