The Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival will be held Oct. 27-Nov. 4 on the Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail in many of Lee County Florida’s waterfront communities. The county has been recognized as one of the best U.S. kayaking destinations by both Canoe & Kayak magazines.

Paddlers, families and outdoors types from around the county and around the world are invited to the event. Nine days of festivities will include several recreational and competitive canoe and kayak races, a kayak fishing tournament, paddling workshops, seminars, children's activities, cultural and archeological events, eco-events, guided tours, paddlers' socials, shoreline cleanups, and more.

After the success of last year's inaugural event, the 2007 Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival has been expanded to include the areas of Pine Island, Fort Myers Beach, Sanibel & Captiva islands, Bonita Springs, Cape Coral, North Fort Myers, and Fort Myers. Communities along the Caloosahatchee River represent the most recent addition to the nearly 100-mile long paddling trail. New maps for this portion of the trail are expected to be available at festival time.
