The first event of the King of New York series
A grueling four-plus mile course makes the Black River Race the endurance event of the King of New York series. The waterfalls and technical rapids challenge racers, but it is the flatwater where champions are made. To win the Black River Race, a long boat is required. Each year Wavehoppers and sea kayaks can be seen boofing Glen Park Falls as racers make their way into the Black River Canyon. The upstream-facing mass-start format sends a pack of creek racing boats and old school designs chasing after anyone that loses control of their long boats. The first event of the King of New York series, the Black Race kicks off the Adirondack racing season with the most rowdy after-party in whitewater.
