Mark Kalch is currently undertaking the 7 Rivers 7 Continents project, attempting to paddle the longest river on each continent from source to sea.

His TED talk focuses on the lessons he’s learned as an expedition paddler and trekker. His journeys include a 6,000-kilometer source-to-sea descent of the Amazon, an overland traverse of Iran, and a source-to-sea descent of the Volga River in Russia.

Kalch’s presentation focuses on the global perspective that he gains through the lens of an expedition paddler. His travels to countries like Iran and Russia have brought him face to face with realities that are not always represented by the media. “That made me more motivated continue on my adventures and take the focus off of me, the heroic adventurer, and put it on the people and places that I met,” Kalch says.
