In the latest installment of Mountain Mind Collective’s ‘Faces of Whitewater’ series, Todd and Brendan Wells chronicle this weekend’s fourth iteration of The North Fork Championship, a three-day, three-race weekend which started with a Thursday Expert Division sprint race and Friday boatercross competition on Idaho’s storied North Fork Payette River, and then climaxed Saturday with a white-knuckle giant slalom race starting atop Jacob’s Ladder, the stretch’s Class V-plus signature rapid. The challenging seven-gated timed slalom pits 15 Elite Division paddlers (invited from an online applicant pool) against one another, as well as the top five racers qualified from Thursday’s sprint, in order to crown the King of the North Fork Championship. In the meantime, watch MMC capture the world’s best paddlers grappling with their nerves before dropping into one of the world’s most challenging whitewater courses.
