(San Jaun Capistrano, Calif.) The Action Sports Group today announced the launch of Standup Paddler magazine. The new publication–to be produced by the staff of Canoe & Kayak magazine–will hit newsstands December 15, 2009.
“Standup paddling is the hottest trend in surfing and in paddling,” said Jim Marsh, publisher of Canoe & Kayak. “It’s happening everywhere. In creating this magazine, we see an amazing opportunity.”
Standup paddling is sweeping the nation (not to mention the world), and canoe and kayak retailers are taking advantage of this hot new sub-sport. Though heavily associated with surf culture, standup paddling isn’t confined to coastal areas. SUPs are increasingly common on inland lakes and rivers, as well as in the surf zone.
“The C&K crew has been doing its SUP homework just about every lunch break down at San Onofre State Beach,” said Jeff Moag, editor of Canoe & Kayak. “We’ve got into some big swell and paddled with legends like Brian Keaulana. One of our guys even circumnavigated the island of St. John, part of the U.S. Virgin Islands. We’re all about standup paddling and can’t wait to spread the stoke.”
Deadline for advertising in this issue is October 12. It will be sold at thousands of retail outlets across the country, including paddling and specialty stores as well as at REI.
