CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – (October 20, 2010) The 2010 Corpus Christi Paddle Prix & Rally is the Mayor’s Fitness Council’s signature event designed to encourage everyone to stay fit while enjoying the vast natural resources the Coastal Bend has to offer. It will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010. The finish line for this race along the Nueces River will be at Labonte Park.
“It is important for everyone in Corpus Christi to live healthy and active lives. Our community is blessed with natural resources that give each of us an opportunity to get outdoors and be active while being surrounded by nature’s beauty. I encourage you and your family to take part in this inaugural event along the Nueces River,” said Mayor Joe Adame.
For their entry fee and participation, participants will receive a Corpus Christi Paddle Prix Race & Rally T-shirt, a goody bag containing various free items from the race sponsors, and a hot lunch. Racers compete in a wide range of vessel classes from solo recreational kayak or canoe out for a day of fun on the river.
This is event has been made possible through partnerships from Corpus Christi Parks & Recreation Department, Jerry B’s Kayaks, Port of Corpus Christi, Corpus Christi Convention & Visitors Bureau, Nueces River Authority, and Corpus Christi Bays & Estuaries Program; and sponsorships from LNF Distributors, H-E-B, NuStar Energy, Chango Productions, Topaz Power Group, and Kleberg Bank.
FEES: Rally Fee is $15.00 per paddler. Race Fee is $25.00 per paddler. $5 discount for all American Canoe Association members (must list ACA membership # on form). Kayak rentals are available for $35 and $50 for solo and tandem kayaks, respectively.
REGISTRATION: Registration Packages will be available for pick-up at two locations: 1) Jerry B’s Kayaks, 9906 South Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, TX; www.jerrybskayaks.com; and 2) McCampbell House at Heritage Park, 1501 Chaparral, Corpus Christi, TX. Registration ends at 5 pm on October 22, 2010.
