Being the publisher of the world’s biggest paddling magazine does have its perks. Last winter, for example, Larry Vermeeren of Small World Adventures (SWA) invited me down to Ecuador, where he has been running paddling trips since 1993. It was the best week of paddling I’ve ever had.
We paddled for seven days straight. Occasionally, we even hit two rivers in a day. It would have taken at least a month to hit all the rivers we paddled without SWA. The rivers, food, accommodations, culture and camaraderie made for an amazing experience. On the plane ride home, I remember wondering if I’d ever felt so good. It re-energized my life back in the USA.
Back home, I immediately started planning a return trip, this time with the rest of the C&K team and-here’s where you come in-our readers. Editor Jeff Moag and I would like to invite you to paddle Ecuador with the staff of Canoe & Kayak magazine Dec 10-18, 2011 on our first ever reader retreat. SWA will host , guide and provide the kayaks. We’ll have two groups-Class III and Class IV, to accommodate paddlers on different levels.
There’s no reason to stop paddling just because of old man winter. Extend your season in a warm climate and enjoy warm waters. Experience an amazing place with great people while the rest of your friends shovel snow and get inundated with endless Christmas hype.
I fell in love with Ecuador and I think you will too. This is your chance to take an unforgettable adventure in the Amazon Basin on South America’s best whitewater. You’ll spend time with readers and staff of Canoe & Kayak, friendly locals and some of the world’s best river guides.
