NuCanoe has gotten a case of the quicks. The company known for the super-stable Frontier and Classic – two of the widest fishing and hunting kayaks on earth – is launching the (relatively) svelte and slender Pursuit.
Kayak Fish caught an early glimpse of NuCanoe’s new entry back in August at Outdoor Retailer Demo Day, but we were sworn to secrecy until now. It’s 13.5 feet long and 35 inches wide. It’s still plenty stable and standable. You can’t call this thing skinny unless you put it side by side with the company’s older models. But it’s quick, much quicker, with the nimble little wiggle characteristic of kayaks designed for livelier water.
“We wanted to offer a NuCanoe that you’d take on a longer paddle and bigger water,” the company’s Blake Young said at the time. It offers Multi-Height seating, but as befits a sportier model, it’s a single seater.
The version we sampled was a wide-open platform (that’s vintage NuCanoe design right there), good for fishing, hunting and what have you. The self-bailing capacity of the latest prototype announced today is a generous 350 pounds. Maximum capacity is 550 pounds.
Blake Young said the production Pursuit will come with an XL Gear Vault for in-hull storage, dual internal Rod Storage Tubes, Crate Space fore and aft, and about 14 feet of Freedom Track mounted just about anywhere you’d want to stick an accessory.
NuCanoe plans to start shipping the Pursuit to dealers in April 2015.
