A Breath of Fresh Air: Frabill’s F1 Storm Gear
By Mike Stevens

Unless you live where you can literally walk on water every winter, you may only be familiar with Frabill's innovative landing nets and bait storage solutions that are used in your neck of the woods. The reality is, Frabill specializes in inclement…make that EXTREME weather apparel that is utilized by anglers throughout he great white north and beyond. In fact, numerous independent surveys indicate that hard-core ice fishermen trust Frabill over the competition when it comes to shelters, insulated suits and other products geared at keeping you on the water longer, regardless of the conditions.

Always on a mission to turn a lot of heads at the ICAST show, the 75-year-old company will not disappoint this year with its introduction of the new F1 Storm Gear which is geared toward the angler looking to keep dry during wet, yet WARM conditions.

Frabill's resident outerwear wizard Chris Leonard explains how he attacked the problem of keeping outside moisture at bay while maintaining a breathable, sweat-free environment on the inside.

Frabill's new F1 is engineered from the outside-in of premium ripstop outer fabric with an inner cooling mesh.

"The F1's construction is engineered from the outside-in. We started with a premium, lightweight ripstop outer fabric, and the new F1 maintains the same waterproof performance as our F2, but in a lighter-overall garment," he said. "Coastal and freshwater bass anglers are subject to some of the worst weather available. When it's pouring rain, but the thermometer still reads 80-degrees or higher, you can get drenched on the inside even when you are keeping outside moisture out. We developed the F Series Rain Gear with the specific purpose of keeping you dry inside and out."

Both the jackets and the pants features the outer ripstop fabric and an inner mesh that separates your skin from the outside fabric which encourages a cooling air flow that carries heat away from your body while keeping you dry. In true Frabill fashion, the F1 Storm Gear is ergonomically designed to maximize comfort as well as range-of-motion specific to fishing.

This means paddling, casting, twisting towards the back of your 'yak to retrieve gear, and grabbing the landing net are still as easy as when you're in boardshorts and a t-shirt.

"The pre-curvature of F-Series Storm Gear is matched to the human form and posture. You'll see what I'm talking about when an F-Series suit hangs next to raingear from other makers. Slip one on an F-Series and you'll really feel what I mean," adds Leonard.
