Bonus boat news! New Zealand made Viking Kayaks is kicking out a compact version of its ProFish line, complete with the cool removable Reload Tackle Pod. The ProFish GT is a stowage- and portage-friendly 11.8-feet long and a stable-sounding 32-inches wide. Viking’s sales materials claim a smooth 52-pound hull weight, paired with a generous 385-pound capacity.
Viking touts the GT’s surf capable bow lift, but we’re eyeing its abilities to access pocket water. Bill Bragman of Yak Gear, US Viking Kayak distributor, is planning to bring the GT in sometime in the new year, along with a limited edition Dorado Reload rigged to the hilt, including Chill Pod and rudder.
Deck features include a quartet of flushmount rod holders and molded-in gunwale storage areas, plus a round hatch in the cockpit. The tankwell is large enough to hold the company’s Chill Pod fish storage accessory, and if that’s not enough, the bow appears to be molded to accommodate an oval aftermarket hatch.
