Native Powers Up (Motor!), Shows Off Ultimate FX13
By Paul Lebowitz

Woody Callaway was back at Outdoor Retailer, in a big way. The Native Watercraft honcho swept into the show with a fine looking Propel pedal drive Ultimate (the FX13), then doubled down with an affordable motor option.

First the breaking power news. Callaway says there’s no reason electric motor options should be expensive. Anglers can walk into sporting goods stores across the country and walk out with a hand-controlled 30-pound thrust trolling motor for just $100.

Native's upcoming trolling motor bracket for Propel models makes electric power affordable and accessible: just add your own hand-steered motor, available for as little as $100.

For use with one of Native’s Propel models, all that’s missing is the bracket. Not for much longer. Callaway was displaying a prototype in the Native booth. It will be available soon for an estimated $100. You buy the motor, Native sells the bracket and boom! Electrified kayak for $200 (plus battery).

The Ultimate FX13 Propel

Callaway says Native fans have clamored for a new pedal drive Ultimate. That boat holds a special place in Native history. The Jimbo Meador designs were the first modern canoe / kayak crossovers, "standable" platforms featuring the earliest elevated mesh seats to hit the kayak fishing market.

Long known for obliging customers, Callaway and team went to work. The FX13 looks quick, sleek and long. It’s the same width as Native’s recent Slayer Propels, but drier.

Rigging details include a First Class Seat, bow hatch with a battery box tucked underneath, plenty of track system for accessories. A nifty utility box sits just behind the seat. It accommodates rod tubes and includes covered storage. Callaway says it isn’t a cooler but he uses it to stash liquid refreshment. It could also be used as a bait tank or for tackle storage. No word on when the FX13 Propel will hit stores.
