Young duo plans 2,000-mile canoe trip to benefit African orphans

C&K Staff Report — On August 14, Ben Swartz, 21, and Jon Detweiler, 22, will be putting in at Sugar Creek in Eastern Ohio with the intention of canoeing nearly 2,000 miles to the Gulf of Mexico to raise money for orphans and pastors in Mozambique, Africa. Their planned route passes through 10 states on four different rivers, including the Tuscarawas, Muskingum, Ohio and Mississippi. “One of the things we want people to learn from this trip, is that we can do difficult things so that others can benefit,” says Swartz.
