Thermacell Camp Lantern
At first, I was leery of Thermacell’s insect repellent technology. Perhaps that’s a function of growing up in the northern Ontario mosquito belt, where technology (bug zapper, anyone?) is viewed as ineffectual against the legendary scourge of biting insects. But Thermacell’s formula—a synthetic, practically odorless take on the natural insecticide emitted by chrysanthemum flowers that’s heated by butane and radiated silently—actually works to eradicate bugs in small areas, as I discovered on a sea kayak trip along Florida’s bug-ridden Gulf Coast. Now, Thermacell has combined a battery-powered lantern with its insect repellent, making nights around base camp more bearable.
