The Velocity is a sturdy boot with a hightop to keep out grit, grime, and sand. NRS’s rubber outsole is not on par with 5.10’s traction, but the Velocity is less bulky than the Canyoneer, which makes it easier to use in some situations. The sole is a little softer, which I like. It’s still sturdy enough to feel OK on longer hikes and portages, but it doesn’t feel clunky like the Canyoneer.
Fit: True to size.
If traction is your ultimate desire for your heavy-duty paddling boot, then the Canyoneer is still your winner. But if you want a boot that is pretty good on traction and will be easier to wear inside of a kayak then the Velocity could be the shoe for you.
