There’s nothing like a shot of coffee or a hot cup of tea to enhance lunch on the trail. Whereas most stoves are too cumbersome or complicated to bother setting up for a midday shoreline brew, the MSR WindBoiler is quick and simple. It’s the typical single burner-over-canister design, but with a unique radiant burner, an integrated windscreen and heat exchanger that boils water in a flash—even in winds up to 15 mph. The WindBoiler comes as a set with an insulated one-liter pot, drinking lid/strainer and a dinner-sized bowl. Optional accessories include a coffee press kit ($19.95). It all packs up small and self-contained to take up minimal hatch or pack space. Bear in mind, stoves like the WindBoiler are restricted to simple, boiling water-only meals; but even outdoor gourmets will benefit from it as a lightweight, rapid-fire source of hot beverages.
