Hennessy Deep Jungle Hammock-Kayak Shelters

Hennessy Deep Jungle Hammock
($300, hennessyhammock.com)
3 lbs., 1P/3S, Fly Coverage 53 sq ft

Hammocks have a niche on the kayak camping scene.  The Hennessy Deep Jungle sports a mondo fly, providing a large dry space to dress and stash gear under (allowing the rain isn’t coming sideways at 50 mph.).   Some people love the hammock sway; it boasts a comfortable pad and easy in and out through a bottom opening, reminiscent of entering an Ewok home rather than a conventional hammock.  Quality is bomber on the four different Hennessy models we’ve taken afield.  I‘d rate it conservatively at 3S, although we’ve ridden out some spankers in them. Not at all your father’s hammock, a Hennessy is a seriously well designed and constructed hanging shelter.

I offered these in my store and they sell very well. I purchased one myself to see why and they are so comfortable, easy to set up and it’s great to lay there and not get wet.

I just got back from my most recent visit to the Ecuadorian Amazon region and, as always, my Hennessy Hammock provided a snug, secure-feeling shelter from the elements and the creepy-crawlies. I like to hang a Safelite which when turned off still emits a very dim, red glow from the centerline rope. It just feels like home in there, all Velcro’d up. I prefer a tent for cold weather but whenever I have a choice I’ll opt for my Hennessy.
