When we last heard from the Rediscover North America canoe expedition, they were facing a frozen Mississippi about 1,000 miles into their 5,200-mile journey from the Gulf of Mexico to the Arctic Ocean. After a few days of hard portaging, the river has finally thawed and they’re making good progress towards the Minnesota River where they will leave the Mississippi behind. Check out their latest video update from La Crosse, Wis., above, or click here for an overview of their expedition route.
