Charlotte Whitewater park

“This is an incredible feat of design and engineering being achieved by our team of Recreation Engineering & Planning, Liquid Design and RodgersDooley Construction,” said Jeff Wise, executive director of the U.S. National Whitewater Center. “Every time I go to the site I am awestruck. We have built the world’s largest recirculating whitewater river – the only multichannel artificial river in the world.”
Designed to host World Cup competitions and Olympic Trials, the Whitewater Center also will serve as the home of international Olympic athletes working and training at the Center.
“To me, the incredible thing is that the average person can run the same channels as Olympic-caliber athletes,” said Lance Kinerk, U.S. National Whitewater Center director of development. “No matter what level of skill you have, you will find a challenge here.”
Ten minutes from downtown Charlotte, NC, and set among 307 wooded acres along the scenic Catawba River, the Whitewater Center’s multi-use facility has a climbing center, mountain biking trails and running trails in addition to rafting, kayaking and canoeing.
