Terri Cairns checking out the night sky on the banks of the Big Salmon in mid-October—very late in the season in the far north.

This shot is a camping shot, and isn’t on the Yukon River, it is on a tributary called the Big Salmon River.

I took this shot around 9pm in mid-October (really late in the far north for canoeing), on our 7 day canoe trip we woke up to snow 3 times. Paddling so late in the year, we saw lots of wildlife including three wolf encounters.

The women in the picture is my partner Terri Cairns, and the tent is an old school Bill Mason campfire tent. Made of canvas, it is a great tent, as you can keep the side open to sleep under the stars, and have a warm fire at your door to keep you toasty warm.
