2013 Male Paddler of the Year

Garcia takes the win for pushing both whitewater and film

Garcia is best known for pushing the boundaries of both whitewater and film. In the last year, he has charged countless big drops and competed in the world’s toughest whitewater competition. With Rush Sturges and Rafa Ortiz, he made the first single-day descent of the Rio Santo Domingo, at 1,000 feet-per-mile the steepest section of whitewater ever run. Garcia also co-founded Substantial Media House, whose films take audiences to places and rivers few have ever seen, with stylish edits documenting the lives and exploits of the world’s most dynamic boaters.
