2013 Female Paddler of the Year

Slalom phenom turned extreme race champ Nouria Newman voted Paddler of the Year

This year’s C&K Female Paddler of the Year Award goes to French slalom paddler and big-water charger Nauru Newman.

“I’d like to thank the amazing chicas that got nominated along with me, and I hope I will get to paddle with them soon,” Newman said in an acceptance video. She is competing this week in the Under-23 European Slalom Championships in her native France and was unable to attend the C&K Awards. “Wish me luck,” she said.

Coming from a background of slalom racing, the quiet 21-year-old powerhouse from the Pyrenees rocked the whitewater world when she dominated the women’s class of the 2012 Whitewater Grand Prix, winning four out of the five stages.
